Bible Quizzing News

Bible Quizzing is alive and well in the Rocky Mountain District! The first tournament of the year was held earlier this month in Billings, and over 80 people from Billings, Great Falls, Hardin, and Helena gathered to see teams of children and youth share their knowledge of the Word of God. The focus this year is on Doctrine, and there are some quizzers that have already memorized well over 100 verses. Tournaments will be held monthly throughout the district through June, with the next one in Hardin on March 3rd. To find out more about this exciting ministry, contact Rev. Save Our Children Kickoff!

Saving children has never made any more “cents”! The fund-raising arm of the General Sunday School Division is “Save Our Children.” Its original goal and dream was to build a great church from children upward. Jesus taught us that new wine needed to be placed in new bottles. If the new wine were placed in old bottles, the bottles would burst and spill all the liquids.

Similarly, every major corporation focuses upon one major word: change! The old equipment, the old printing presses, the old computers, the old buildings need to be replaced. While repairing older equipment is expensive and sometimes necessary, good executives always make plans for some new things to be added to their company. It’s a part of continued growth! While I by no means am stating that older people are not important—because we are—the future lies in the hands of our children. So to
keep the future bright, we must financially support our children.

Now is a great time for you to be involved in helping raise money for Save Our Children. The General Sunday School Division is positioning to launch this program to assist churches in saving our children. We have a dream of reaching one million children in the next five years! That’s only 200,000 children per year, but this will help build an army of children who will be qualified and trained to step into leadership positions! We will do this through Junior Bible Quizzing, Sunday school literature and classes, children’s crusades, Junior Camps, B.R.E.A.D. (the Bible reading program) and many other training programs. Help us help you as we prepare for the future! Save Our Children has never been more
important! Leaving no child behind is our drive.

Our 2012 District goal for Save Our Children is $12,000. It can be done with everyone pulling together.  Let’s put our greatest amount of support to the greatest area of potential.  Our future is reached through our wallets and purses. Will you help us reach our children? The harvest is ripe and the laborers are few, so let’s recruit children to save our world. Let’s go down in the record book as saying, “We gave our priority dollars to a priority cause: to Save Our Children.” The offering date this year is April 8, 2012 (Easter Sunday).  God bless you for your sacrificial giving!

Family Camp Report

What an incredible camp! Rev. Tom Foster, Rev. & Mrs. Bryan Abernathy, and missionaries Jim & Latitia Robertson combined to minister to the adults while Rev. Nathan Thompson spoke to the youth and various local ministers shared with the children. Coupled with that was singing from across the district that prepared everyone for the Word in every service. Not only did the children have morning sessions, but they also had their own service at night.

There was plenty of fun on the golf course and on the walleyball court, but it was apparent from the first service that it was time to have church! A great spirit of unity and urgency was evident throughout the week, and the presence of God that was experienced made this a camp that will not soon be forgotten.

"Fresh Anointing" Report

The first annual “Fresh Anointing” conference was held June
15-17th in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Hosted and held at the United Pentecostal Church, ministers and
saints from around the district were blessed and challenged by
the ministries of Rev. David Shatwell and Rev. Carlton Coon.
This meeting was planned to provide a time of spiritual renewal
and instructional encouragement. Noone left disappointed.
Miracles occurred as people acted in faith to the Word of God.
Plans are already in place for this series of meetings to continue
next June with Rev. Sam Emory as the night speaker.

Recognition of Rev. & Mrs. Kenneth Reed

Kenneth Reed was pastoring the United Pentecostal Church of Sheridan, Wyoming, and serving as the secretary of the Rocky Mountain District when in October 1988, he and his wife, Shelba, received their appointment as UPCI missionaries to Indonesia.

Sister Reed had served as a junior missionary in Indonesia in the late 1950s with her parents, W. R. and Sallie Pardue. Following their first deputation, the Reeds located in the Philippines and taught in the Bible school until they secured visas for Indonesia. When the Indonesian government refused to renew their visas,

Tribute to Rev. Ralph Reed, Jr.

The first of March, 1980 was a day that changed my life. I had been offered a job in Cody and came up to interview for the job. When we got to town we called Bro. Ralph Reed, who had moved to Cody a few months earlier to start a church, and he said he'd be over in a few minutes

Thinking Outside the Box

Thinking Outside the Box

Thinking Outside the Box. The phrase evokes the idea of stepping outside the traditional or time honored way of doing things. Novel, creative, and downright bizarre solutions to problems often are proposed when brainstorming moves “Outside the Box.”

One planning session for our section some years ago brought our Presbyter to call upon those in the session to think outside the box. After a pause, He looked at several of us as if to solicit some input. When he made eye contact with me he said. “You’ve never been in a box.” I can’t say that the statement is accurate, but I will say I try not to be bound by preconceived ideas or prejudiced opinions of others. I believe that for every problem God has a solution.
