The Rocky Mountain District of the United Pentecostal Church was formed in 1969. Prior to that time, the states of Montana, Wyoming, and Utah were included in a district with other states that made up the Northwestern District. When the three states became a district of their own, they were made up of three sections even though there was not representation from each state.
As the district grew, one presbyter became elected from each state. To facilitate growth in the 1980's, another section was added. In 2009, elections were held that organize the district into five parts. They are as follows:
Section One -Utah; Section Two - Southern Wyoming, Section Three - Northern Wyoming, Section Four - Eastern Montana, and Section Five -Western Montana.
